The Philly Tweetup official started in March 2009 at the Fox and Hound in Philadelphia. Ever since the attendance at our monthly gatherings has grown exponentially.

Using the hashtags #tup and #phillytweetup, Twitter users in the Philadelphia area communicate amongst themselves about the time and place of where the next tweetup will be.

For those who are wondering what a tweetup is, it’s a meetup of Twitter and Social Media professionals and enthusiasts who gather at a location to meet in person and socialize. Essentially it’s putting the “Social in Social Media.” The goal of the PhillyTweetup is to encourage dialogue about both the issues and topics surrounding the online space as well as sharing tips about how we each use Social Media in our daily lives.

The PhillyTweetup is organized monthly by Seth Goldstein (@sethgoldstein), Neal Wiser (@nealwiser) and Jody Raines (@sunswept). The format of the Tweetup will vary from month to month. Our goal is to not only provide evening happy hours but also helpful learning events as well (such as unconferences and discussion roundtables).
